Kitchen Design and Couples Therapy

What a fun one! St. James Plantation homeowners came to see Designer Amy Richardson with dreams of a kitchen renovation for their newly purchased home.

New Kitchen for the Silverware

Each of the style selections for the new kitchen were easily made by the homeowners. They chose Kraftmaid Cabinetry in Dove White for the uppers with Harbor Blue for the lowers.

The cabinetry selections were paired with a soft white quartz countertop, Carrara Marmi, and matte black hardware was chosen from Berenson.

The function of the new kitchen, however, was another story. Storage space was key for these homeowners as they both brought items into their new marriage. And, one item, in particular, had significance. The silverware.

The husband and wife each had a set of silverware that needed a designated home in the new kitchen. The reason why is they each hated the other’s silverware.

Have no fear though…Designer Amy put her psychology degree to work during the kitchen consultation and did a couples therapy session resulting in a compromise that pleased both. A space in the kitchen for both sets of silverware. Crisis avoided.

We love fun homeowners like these and, solving functional challenges comes with the job!

Designer Amy has solved many challenges over the decades she is been designing kitchens.

Oh, What A Pantry!

We know you’ve seen it. The wire-shelving closet pantry that’s not deep enough to walk into nor as functional as it could be.

Well, our St. James homeowners came to us looking to solve this challenge while updating their kitchen!

New Kitchen and Pantry

The homeowners sought out Designer Amy’s assistance when it came to designing a new kitchen and pantry for their home.

For cabinetry, they selected Kraftmaid. The lowers were installed in Midnight and the uppers were Dove White. The design plan was to remove the existing cabinets that blocked the view into the dining room and to utilize a novel concept to add the storage space lost into the design of a new pantry.

The pantry plan was different than anything we had done before which was super fun for our very experienced Designer Amy.

The homeowners wanted to maximize the entire area in the pantry so pull-out trays were chosen as a part of the plan to create ease and convenience!

Take a peek at the end result. We’d say the open kitchen and new pantry are 10 times better!
