Oak Island NC
Fixing Up the Fixer-Upper
Coastal Farmhouse Style
When your clients have as much personal style as Chip & Joanna, you are destined for an amazing remodel reveal. Designer Cindy’s clients purchased an Oak Island home that was in need of remodeling and they were committed to fixing up the fixer-upper.
Prior to consulting with Cindy, the couple did their research. The couple’s beach cottage style was defined. In a marriage of both coastal and farmhouse design, the homeowners set out to create a Coastal Farmhouse style kitchen that greeted you with a bright and airy aesthetic.
Perfectly Coordinated Selections
Just thinking about their vision gave Cindy all the feels and she knew she could offer just the right selections to bring their vision to life. With aspirations of a weathered white, bleached wood look, Cindy recommended a newer style of cabinetry from Waypoint called Duraform.
Duraform uses foils and coatings to create a range of finishes that are bonded to composite wood. The process used creates an extremely durable and easy to clean product which makes it advantageous for high-usage kitchens. It is also highly resistant to warping, heat, humidity, and fading.
In Waypoint’s Duraform line, Cindy recommended the textured door style, DT24 Duraform Breeze, to achieve the client’s preference for a white-washed look. She also educated the client by explaining while Duraform was similar to Thermofoil cabinetry – in that it is easy to wipe clean – the materials are different with Duraform being significantly more durable. The surface finish of thermofoil kitchen cabinets, similar to laminate, is susceptible to chipping and heat damage. Additionally, yellowing as the vinyl ages can also occur over time.
With Cindy’s professional guidance and understanding of the Waypoint Limited Lifetime Warranty, the clients opted to select the Duraform cabinets recommended as well as Waypoint in Stained Maple Rye for the hood and floating shelves.
To complement the kitchen’s airy feel, quartz countertops were chosen in Carrara Marmi and to add a level of modern sophistication hardware was selected from Berenson in Modern Brushed Gold.
The perfectly coordinated selections in this coastal home gave us beach cottage envy like no other.

We hope our “Chip and Joanna” of Oak Island enjoy this space for years to come.

“My husband and I are highly satisfied with their service and products. Our kitchen cabinets and countertops are absolutely gorgeous. Cindy’s experience made designing our kitchen seem effortless and stress-free. She was readily available to answer questions and even went above the call of duty to help us locate a kitchen sink when ours got at another big box store! I highly recommend Brunswick Cabinets and Countertops.”

A Beachy Remodel in Oak Island NC
The kitchen design of this Oak Island NC beachy remodel is one of our favorites! A favorite because the design selections of cabinets and countertops capture the “coastal” vibe we love to design for so perfectly.
Two-Tone Kitchen Cabinetry
The two-tone cabinet combination of Brooklyn Gray and Brooklyn White from Kitchen Cabinet Distributors gives you cooling charms as you enter. Two-tone cabinetry also makes for a great first impression and a fresh look. Two very important benefits when you are considering a remodel like our client prior to selling your home. The choice is eye-catching and memorable which are great advantages when you want your property to stand out from the competition. Two-tone cabinets are also a great way to make a strong design statement in your kitchen remodel without breaking your budget.
Re-Inspire Your Space with New Countertops
The design selection for countertops to re-inspire the space were also well thought out. Slabs of Viscount White were chosen for the granite countertops to give the home an updated, modern and luxe feel. The sophistication of the selection elevated the interior of the home, both in the kitchen and the bathrooms, giving each of the rooms a show-stopping moment upon entry.
The boldly veined granite countertop was also a perfect selection for the two-tone cabinets bringing both cabinet tones together.
Take a look at the home photos post-installation. We’re confident you’ll agree the homeowner nailed the coastal vibe on this beautiful remodel in Oak Island.
