How Does a Kitchen Designer Manage Your Project from Start to Finish?
“One of the advantages of going to a small, privately owned kitchen and bath designer center is you’re going to get the Designer that you initially meet with following you through the entire project. You’re not going to be jumping from the design phase to the install phase having a different person.” – Cindy Bennett-McCune
In this blog, our Designer Cindy walks you through her process of managing a kitchen remodeling project from start to finish, with a goal for the whole project to run seamlessly and as fast as possible to get you back into your “new” kitchen.

Step 1: Initial Meeting and Consultation
The first step in managing your kitchen design project is our initial meeting. This consultation allows us to discuss your specific needs and goals, whether you’re looking for a new countertop or a complete kitchen remodel. This meeting typically takes place in our showroom, where we go over the available selections and design options.

Step 2: In-Home Measurement and Assessment
After our initial consultation, I will visit your home to take precise measurements and gain a better understanding of what you want to change about your current kitchen. During this visit, we discuss potential updates, functional improvements, appliance changes, and whether you wish to keep the same footprint.
Step 3: Design Development
With the measurements and your preferences in mind, I will return to the drawing board to start designing your new kitchen. This step involves creating a 3D rendering and design plan that meets your specific requirements and vision for the space.
Step 4: Design Review and Tweaking
We will schedule a follow-up meeting to review the initial design. During this meeting, we will go over the proposed layout and make any necessary tweaks to ensure the design perfectly aligns with your expectations.
Step 5: Ordering Cabinets
Once the design is finalized, we proceed to order the cabinets. This process typically involves a waiting period of about five to six weeks for the cabinets to arrive. Throughout this time, I will stay in contact with you to keep you updated on the progress.
Step 6: Scheduling and Timeline Setup
When the cabinets are ready for delivery, I will contact you to set up a timeline for the installation. We aim to keep the steps of the project as close together as possible to minimize any downtime between different phases.
Step 7: Cabinet Installation and Countertop Templating
The biggest gap in the project timeline usually occurs after the cabinets are installed. Once the cabinets are set, we quickly move to template the countertops. However, there is typically about a two-week waiting period for the countertops to be fabricated and ready for installation.
Step 8: Flooring and Appliance Setup
During the waiting period for the countertops, many clients take advantage of this time to have their floors installed, especially if using LVP flooring, which can only be done after the cabinets are set. This is also a good time to have appliances delivered and ready for installation.
Step 9: Countertop Installation
Once the countertops are ready, I will contact you to schedule the installation. This process usually takes about half a day, depending on the size of your project. The countertops are installed, bringing the kitchen remodel closer to completion.
Step 10: Final Touches and Completion
The final step involves homeowners hooking up the electrical and plumbing to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Once these final touches are completed, you will have a brand-new kitchen ready for use.
We hope this 10-step guide from Designer Cindy has given you a clear understanding of how we manage your kitchen design project from start to finish.
